Hillstead Farm is a small family farm. Our goal is to provide the local community with the best possible meat, eggs, and produce, while implementing regenerative and ethical farming practices, including holistic animal husbandry. Our animals do not receive vaccinations of any kind, and antibiotics are used only on rare occasions. We are not certified organic but utilize practices that go beyond organic. We do not spray or use chemicals on our pastures or garden beds. We use no-dig gardening, meaning our beds are not tilled, but built upon the natural soil with compost, and use of wood chips in pathways.
Agroforestry is another passion that we have utilized on the farm. In the spring of 2024, we planted an 11-acre silvopasture fruit and nut tree orchard. Silvopasture is the integration of tree systems with livestock grazing, so our cattle and chickens are moved throughout the orchard. This form of agroforestry provides animals with shade and fodder, while also providing shade for grasses in dry summer months.
